Gridwerk Leather is a veteran-owned, small business in Powell, Tennessee focusing on high-quality leather items made one at a time, by hand and from the best materials available. Whether it's 100% top-grain cowhide, buffalo or deer we try to showcase the natural beauty of the hide in all our products.
Our unique, hand-rub dying technique was learned by Michael when he worked as an apprentice to Master Leather Craftsman Glen Donly. The application process brings out the character of the leather often accentuating the random blemishes, scars, flaws and brands the animal collected during it's life. These markings are often left in the finished piece giving your item a genuinely unique look and feel.
From elegant journal covers, bags and wallets comfortable in the office to rugged haversacks, bushcraft kits and hunting accessories durable enough for the wild, Gridwerk takes the creation of each piece seriously.
Our design inspiration comes from the accidentally elegant products purpose-built to survive the harsh conditions faced by the 17th century traders, trappers, explorers and adventurers from this country's history. Each piece is deliberately designed to have an old-world feel, a rugged good look and is intended to age beautifully.
All of us at Gridwerk would like to personally thank you for considering us for your next purchase and we look forward to serving you with the finest products we can make.
In October 2021, Michael was accepted as a Juried Artist at the Appalachian Arts Craft Center. Please visit them to see all the talented artists and teachers, every purchase helps maintain a space for local artist representation in the Appalachian community.
